Perplexity cited your competitor three times this week. ChatGPT recommended them by name when a prospect asked which firm to hire. Gemini pulled their methodology into an AI Overview. Your site ranked #4 on Google for the same query. Congratulations. You won a game nobody is playing anymore.
This is the GEO ownership problem, and it's not a content quality problem. Your content might be excellent. The issue is structural. SEO is a ranking game. GEO is a recommendation game. The rules are different, the inputs are different, and the org that owns one does not automatically own the other.
Search marketer Tom Critchlow put it plainly this week: AI search is exposing whether SEO teams actually own GEO outcomes. Most don't. Not because they're incompetent. Because the job changed underneath them and nobody updated the org chart.
Two different games

Your ranking report looks normal. Organic traffic is flat or slightly up. The dashboard is green.
